UNIFEM BEGINS ACTIVITIES
IN AZERBAIJAN
The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the
UNs organization to promote womens empowerment and gender equality,
will host the official launching of its regional project, Women
for Conflict Prevention and Peace-building in the Southern Caucasus,
executed in Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. The project will
be launched with an exhibition of childrens art on the topic,
Women in Peace-building through Childrens Eyes at 11.00 a.m.
October 16, 2001 at the The Childrens World Gallery of the Child
&Young Creative Palace named after Tofig Ismayilov at 21,
28 May Street in Baku. The overall project purpose is to build
and support the capacities of women to participate in the peace-building
process in the Southern Caucasus. The budget of the project
with offices in Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia is $1.4 million
for a 2-year period. In the project implementation process,
UNIFEM will closely collaborate with the UN, government agencies
and national NGOs.*
